Surprise! Minicars Score Poorly on Safety Tests!

here are plenty advantages of the mini cars that are popping up all over the place. They look cool, they obviously save on space (think garage or parking spots), and they’re more efficient. The cars also hold a strong disadvantage in safety, one of the most important, if not the most important aspect in choosing a vehicle.

This may not come to a surprise to most. When the cars first came out the safety was usually looked over for it’s economical efficiency. The IIHS recently came out with it’s results and didn’t look good for the mini-cars at all. The Honda Fit (one of the most popular mini-cars) and the Fiat 500 both scored the lowest in the IIHS safety test. Overall the IIHS attributes the low scores to mini-cars to their low weight.

Two mini-cars were able to make it out of the safety tests with passing numbers.  The Mazda2 and the Chevrolet Spark both were able to squeeze by so as not to be considered “unsafe”. Still, when making the decision of buying a new car or buying a mini-car think of the safety aspect, it may be one of the best decisions you’ll ever make.
