Watch for a list of a few simple things you can do this fall to safeguard your home against flooding.
Tip 1: Make sure that any water pipes going into your house are properly insulated to prevent freezing and breakage.
Tip 2: Clean leaves, dirt or any other debris out of your downspouts and gutters.
Tip 3: Check your windows (including basement ones) to make sure that they are closed, latched and have an airtight seal.
Tip 4: Inspect the drains in your yard and street to make sure they’re not blocked by leaves, trash or grass clippings.
Tip 5: If you have a basement with a sump pump, check to make sure it’s functioning properly.
