In the first half of 2010 the FBI says that property and violent crimes have gone down. The FBI has made the claim based on their Preliminary Semiannual Uniform Crime Report. Violent crimes were said to have gone down by 6.2% and 2.8% for property crimes. Robbery, murder, aggravated assault, and forcible rape are the four categories of violent crimes and all of them have gone down since last year.
Motor vehicle theft, larceny theft, and burglary are all categories that have decreased in percentage under property crimes. Motor vehicle theft had the highest percentage of decrease with a 9.7% drop when comparing the numbers to 2009.
Out of all regions of the U.S. the South has improved the most when it comes to both property and violent crimes. The South has had their violent crimes drop by 7.8% and their property crimes drop by 3.6%.
